Joan Carbonell is a Managing Director at Axis Corporate, part of Accenture and is responsible for the development of major accounts in the financial and real estate sectors. Describe your position at Axis Corporate, part of Accenture

My responsibilities within Axis Corporate, part of Accenture are to create lasting relationships with clients and lead value creation, innovation, and transformation projects for companies in the financial sector in Catalonia. In addition, and in order to be able to respond to these responsibilities, it is key to focus on people’s development and foster a collaborative culture among the teams, with the aim of always offering the highest possible value to clients and being excellent in delivering on promises.

What do you value most about your position?

What I value most about my position is being in permanent contact with clients, understanding and advising them on both their needs and those of the sector, and reflecting in order to propose new approaches. It gives me great satisfaction to see how the value propositions we make to clients are implemented and operationalised and to see their impact on companies. I am also very proud to be able to contribute to the recruitment and development of Axis Corporate, part of Accenture professionals.

Being a Managing Director at Axis Corporate, part of Accenture means creating relationships with clients, lending my vision and knowledge of the sector to the people who are part of the projects, identifying market needs, and leading the teams to respond to them in an innovative, effective, and efficient way. All of this involves driving their growth and fostering collaboration with the aim of providing the greatest value to clients and ensuring the projects’ excellence, guaranteeing that “we keep our word” and that we deliver tangible results.

What are the key ingredients to being good at what you do?

The key ingredients for good performance in this profession have to do with the ability to be out of one’s comfort zone in order to advance and improve day by day, to be in constant contact with clients and the project team, and to be committed to continuous training and the search for excellence in our work. Some other important aspects, in my point of view, are the ability to plan and focus on objectives, the ability to conceptualise and operationalise solutions, the ability to communicate in a clear, direct, and executive way, and the ability to have an attitude based on perseverance, tenacity, honesty, and humility, among other qualities.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in consulting?

Don’t be nervous, no matter how difficult the situation gets: perseverance, tenacity, honesty, humility, active listening, an open mind, and a job well done always allow us to achieve the goals we set.
